Family-friendly stay with quirks
The place had a lot of character, we found the big double bed really comfortable and enjoyed the breakfast, it was freshly cooked and warm. The manager upon arrival was really helpful although we had some trouble understanding him .
It wasn't exactly cheap but it was still acceptable for a family night out.

Request a room away from the street to minimize noise, as some rooms face a busy road.

We really enjoyed our stay! The location near the city center was perfect for exploring Oxford. There was a great selection of restaurants around, and our rooms, while quirky, were clean and comfortable, making it a fun base for our family adventure.
In my wife’s opinion, the noise from the street was distracting at times. It would be great if there were soundproofing options for families with children.

we stayed at the black horse in a two-bedroom chalet. it was perfect for our group of friends, with twin beds in one room and a double in another. the kitchenette was great, and everything was spotless. pete, the owner, was super friendly! it's a prime location, just a short walk from the main colleges and many restaurants nearby.

The location is excellent, with easy access to the city center and on-site parking. The room was spacious and well-equipped, boasting a powerful shower and a generous supply of tea bags. the noise from the bustling nearby road was intrusive at times, particularly in the early morning and late at night, and the room felt slightly cramped, limiting movement around the bed.

Spotless room equipped with a little fridge stocked with water and milk, a neat touch. The attic room's character added charm, particularly for those who appreciate unique spaces, despite its limited headroom.
Accessing the room involves navigating two floors of narrow, steep stairs, which could be a hassle for anyone with mobility issues. The attic room featured roof projections that made standing upright a challenge, and the floor had a noticeable slope, adding to the sense of unease. Traffic noise was significant, especially since the window wasn’t conducive to blocking it out. the lack of a proper breakfast seemed a bit off for the price paid, and the couple of cobwebs found in the room hinted at a need for more thorough housekeeping.

would stay here again without hesitation
Location is spot on, just a 15 min walk to the city center. The room was clean and had everything we needed, like a flat-screen TV, free toiletries, and an awesome electric shower. It’s got that quirky, old inn vibe. Friendly staff. Really good value for what you get.

Charming local pub atmosphere with character-rich interiors that tell a story. Secure parking at no extra cost made coming and going a breeze.
The noise from the busy street outside was quite disruptive, especially in the morning. My room was on the road side, so any chance of fresh air through the open window was met with the relentless roar of traffic. Upon inspection, the shower pressure was surprisingly low, making for a frustrating bathing experience. The room itself was small with an uncomfortable, cheap bed that squeaked at every movement, adding to the overall fatigue. I also found some areas lacking in cleanliness, with noticeable mold in the shower that made it feel less than inviting.
